Riding to New Orleans

I was originally supposed to ride out to Montana this July but it got postponed to 2011. So I am planning a different ride for Sept 2010. I plan to ride down from NJ to The Barber Museum in Birmingham Alabama, possibly continue to New Orleans and then ride the southern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway since I didn't have time to do that last year when I rode down to the Dragon.

Any input on rides in the area and any info on any biker friendly places to stay?

I love the city of New Orleans, but there isn't much good riding around there. Some of my riding friends moved there from the New England area and have pretty much quit riding down there... The only riding they do these days is when they take a trip somewhere. They say that Arkansas has some pretty good riding - so they do a week-long stint up that way (trailer the bikes then ride in the area).

I just returned from there. The actual ride down may be all you need wrt riding. I have a suggestion for a hotel - its the Holiday Inn over of Loyola. It's a nice central location and you can walk to the WWII museum, Bourbon Street, Harra's, and Renovation Transportation _Triumph Dealershp (2 blocks away) and a Harely Dealership is about 12 Miles away on Airline Drive--Alot of inventory. The Harely place still has some Buells and the Triumph dealership has every model plus some Benelli's. The WWII museum is nice and has 45 minute movie in an IMAX theater naratted by Tom Hanks. Really Good. If you haven't had Cajun cooking.... Mothers is a gotta do in New Orleans. five block walk. If you interested in more. Let me know. I know that place pretty good. Cheers BC

I would suggest skipping NO and ridding across to the Natchez Trace then take it down to Natchez, MS first. Stop and look at the scenery of course! Tons of history and beautiful places. It is one of the best cruises to take and many bikers ride it daily. After you explore Natchez, MS, taking a few tours of course, head straight south to Baton Rouge, LA capitol. Home of LSU. The trace is a must for any biker IMO. Speed limit a steady 50mph but plenty of scenery.
